What is your value proposition for the legal industry?
Having worked in the legal industry, I understand the dynamics and challenges that technology presents. Historically, the legal industry was not as dependent on technology as other industries. Today that is no longer the case. My specialty is helping law firms understand their needs and finding solutions that are appropriate while not being oversold. There are many firms that have aging or obsolete phone systems and/or computer systems. My job is to help them migrate gracefully into newer systems that not only improve productivity, but protect them from losing the competitive edge from other firms.
Can you share a law firm success story with us?
We recently completed a project at a 50 person law firm downtown that started with the research and replacement of their Verizon voice and data services.
The project quickly evolved into the replacement of their phone system due to hardware that was no longer supported, as well as a computer-health monitoring system, upgraded data backup solution and an anti-spam and centralized anti-virus service.
Working closely with the Firm Administrator, we evaluated the options and replaced their phone system with one that seamlessly integrated with the firm, while keeping them up to speed with the latest VoIP technology.
We replaced all of their voice T1 service, and incorporated an Internet solution that included a secure wireless component, giving them one of the most reliable and cutting edge Internet services available in the Boston area today.
The firm’s IT department has benefitted tremendously from a more proactive approach to help desk/user issues using new onsite and managed remote technologies. Although the Firm Administrator, had not had any formal technical training, her steadiness, focus and project management skills heavily contributed to the overall success of this project. Her users will never know how much work she and her team put into this transition. Actually, the success of any project of this kind can be judged by how unaware the users are that a change actually took place!
YOUR BUSINESS AND THE ALA BOSTON CHAPTER
How long has your company been involved in the Boston Chapter of the ALA?
Two years
How does your company benefit from being involved with the Boston Chapter of the ALA?
I would say through word of mouth within the membership circles. I understand that trust is a huge factor when dealing with a new vendor. The ALA has helped me break through that barrier.
ABOUT YOU
How did you get started at your company?
I love technology and helping people with technical projects. I have been involved in technology for about 12 years, but my formal training is in Psychology. I am a Partner in an IT Services company as well as a Partner at Unity Communications. I’m no Engineer, but it is my job to be the buffer between the client and technical expertise. I started Unity so that people who were searching for telecommunications products and services would have more options than dealing directly with salespeople who want to sell you their product or service only. That buying process often doesn’t work well for the buyer. I have found that our model is very refreshing to people and I get a great deal of pleasure out of helping people with their technology challenges.
Definition of a good day?
Attend a few client meetings, sign a contract, two tickets to the Sox game, cold beverage in one hand, hotdog in the other...that’s a good day : )
What do you do in your spare time?
My wife and 2 and 4 year old boys pretty much own the rest of my free time!
Something that makes you smile?
When the light bulb goes off in someone’s head after I have been explaining something technical and otherwise boring to them. They might say “Oh yeah, I get it now, nobody ever explained it to me that way before!”
