Community Challenge Committee

This Community Challenge initiative was started by the ALA National Chapter over ten years ago.  Our challenge is to give back to the local community our time and resources.  The Boston Chapter participates in several events and fundraising opportunities throughout the year.  Stay tuned for any information on how you can get involved.

The next Community Challenge event will take place on Wednesday, August 13 at the Greater Boston Food Bank. Click on the link below for more details.

  • Community Challenge Weekend

On Saturday, October 4th approximately 40 volunteers from the ALA Boston Chapter along with family and firm members plus vendor volunteers spent the day reaching out to the Boston community to make a difference in the lives of some very special children at The Home for Little Wanderers. Volunteer time was spent at two of the Home sites: The Harrington House and Knights Children's Center which are both residential centers for children ages 5-14. Volunteers weeded the grounds, raked leaves, pruned bushes, painted an outside fence and a classroom in the school at the Knights Center. The group at the Harrington House helped remodel a recreation room. They assembled furniture and hung bright new curtains with the help of the students. Lunch was shared with the children at each facility followed by some games of kickball. We want to thank all of those who helped make the day a success and for making a difference in the lives of many children.
